How to register for your pensioners' rebate
Applicants between 60 - 69 years old, must complete the Pensioners 60 - 69 years Rebate Form available from one the Customer Service Centres or from the City's website www.joburg.org.za
Applicants 70 years and older, must complete the Pensioners 70+ years Rebate Form available from one the Customer Service Centres or from the City's website www.joburg.org.za
Validity of Pensioner Rebate
Pensioners who were granted rebates during the 2023/2024 financial year are not required to reapply. The rebate remains valid for the duration of the valuation roll, which ends on 30 June 2027 (General Valuation Roll 2023).
New pensioners can apply for rebate at any time and need not to re-apply annually unless the status of the applicant changes.
Pensioner Rebate Categories:
60-69 years:
- Pensioners and co-owners earning up to R12,474 qualify for a 100% rebate.
- Pensioners and co-owners earning more than R12,474 up to R21,382 qualify for a 50% rebate.
- Rates are levied on the market value exceeding R1.5 million.
- Pensioners and registered co-owners must submit financial information to allow the City to assess their financial status.
70 years and upward:
- Rates will be levied on properties with a market value exceeding R2 million.
Updated pensioner rebate application forms are available at the City's walk-in centres or can be requested via email from ratescomments@joburg.org.za. They can also be downloaded from the City's website.
Remember to submit the application forms to the nearest walk-in centre and obtain a reference number.
Pensioners and registered co-owners applying for pensioner rebate
Pensioners and registered co-owners applying for pensioner rebate must submit their financial information when applying.
If a property is owned by three people, all of them should submit their financial details.
In case a co-owner has passed away, the applicant must also submit a death certificate.
Rebates are granted to those who are unable to pay, and the financial information allows the City to assess your financial status.
